Blue-grey whale sharks with spotted backs, with smaller sharks and schools of tiny pink and blue fish, on warm cream with pale aqua ripples and bubbles, repeated all over.

Every whale shark has its own pattern of spots, like a fingerprint, and researchers at Ningaloo use the spots to tell individuals apart. They are also the biggest fish in the sea. This is the calm one: big fish, soft blue-grey, plenty of space around each one.
